Baptisms (Christenings) or blessing for the gift of a child
Christenings and Baptisms are really the same service, just its name differs. Both are a welcome to a child (in Infant Baptism) or an adult who has made the decision to become a Christian and affirm in public their walk of faith in the company of others.
The child (or infant) does the same but with the help of their parents and Godparents who promise to support the young person as they learn, with us, what it means to be a follower of Christ.
This is a promise not to be taken lightly, it is a promise before God.
Sometimes parents want to let the child in later life make the choice for themselves as to their faith. A service of Blessing for the gift of the child, affirms our gratitude to God for life, especially new life.
Weddings are also promises, or rather, vows made before God pledging the couple to work together, under the headship of Christ, to make their relationship last through the ebbs and flows of life. Love changes but the commitment to each other has to remain constant.
God, through Jesus, our Lord makes a promise to us that, through life and even through death, he remains with us. A funeral marks that gift of life lived, a celebration of God’s creativity in us, that goes on. In his company where there is no need of sun or moon because Christ is the light.
We would be honoured if you decide to share your life event with us at Christ Church. If you would like more information please feel free to speak to Simon, our vicar, or one of the other church leaders.
We work with you to create a service that is both personal and memorable to you and your guests.
